In 1942 two high explosive bombs were dropped close to Brockenhurst Railway Station and level crossing. Landing in the field between Lymington Road and Church Lane, fortunately no one was injured, although a train of explosives was stored in sidings only 200 yards away.Two deep water filled craters remain to this date.
