During WW 2, Balmer Lawn Hotel was requisitioned for military purposes and used as a HQ for the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division who would land at Juno Beach, Normandy, on 6 June 1944.In 2015 during renovation work, top secret documents giving orders for the D-Day Normandy invasion were found under hotel floorboards after being discarded by Army chiefs seventy years ago. Examples of these documents are displayed on the corridor wall in the bar area of the hotel today.
