Location 1
The Indian (3000) and New Zealand (21,000) soldiers came directly from the battlefields, crossing the Channel to Southampton in hospital ships and were transferred 12 miles across the New Forest in ambulance trains to Brockenhurst Station; specially adapted vehicles then took the injured the short distance to the hospital. At Reception every effort was made to put a patient in a ward with others from the same town or village.
